Services for Children
Speech Therapy for Children
Evaluation and therapy services for children (2 through 22 years of age) include:
- Articulation and intelligibility issues
- Fluency (stuttering or cluttering)
- Alternative communication methods (pictures, symbols, and manual signs) and technology (talking computers)
- Cognitive rehabilitation following chemotherapy, surgery, or head trauma
- Receptive and expressive language delay
- Specific language impairments (SLI)
- Social skills and perspective training
Treatment plans are designed based on evaluation results and diagnostic therapy results. Using evidence-based methods and parent input we create a plan that addresses your child’s communication and academic needs at home and in school.
Social Skills and Perspective Training
We offer individual and semi-private social training. We incorporate educational strategies, visual reminders, and social stories that address the child or teenager’s immediate needs in school and at home. Our program addresses joint attention, body orientation, verbal reasoning, how to handle teasing, requesting, joining in a group game, empathizing with others, and making small talk.
We incorporate the philosophies of Floortime, Pyramid Educational Model, Relationship Development Intervention (RDI), and Michelle Garcia-Winner’s Social Thinking concepts in our treatment plans.
Reading Intervention
We use a variety of age-specific techniques and structured programs, such as the Wilson Reading System and Language!, to help children acquire the fluency skills necessary to become good readers. Fluency is an important foundation for reading comprehension.
Math Intervention
We incorporate Making Math Real-based multi-sensory learning strategies and games to teach number concepts and math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). We currently provide math tutoring for pre-math concepts through Algebra I. For older children and teens we use real life applications and journals to teach math concepts.
Art Instruction
We offer individual or semi-private art instruction for children who are struggling with academics. The instruction incorporates drawing and clay sculpting with academic concepts. The students apprentice with a master artist in a structured activity that addresses the child’s learning style. These lessons encourage listening skills, memory skills, reading fluency, and attention to detail. Each class uses a set-up, play, and clean-up/tear down routine that addresses the needs of children with nonverbal learning disorder and Asperger’s syndrome.
